Institute for Interdisciplinary Research on Conflict and Violence (IKG)
The Institute for Interdisciplinary Research on Conflict and Violence (IKG) is an academic institution at Bielefeld University. It was founded in 1996 and conducts research on the causes and effects of social conflicts, in particular social disintegration, and group-focused enmity. Since 2013, the institute has been directed by Prof. Dr. Andreas Zick. The IKG is dedicated to interdisciplinary theory development and empirical research into politically and socially relevant conflicts and violence as well as their consequences for social cohesion, participation, democracy, and peace. It is one of the leading German research institutions in this field. The IKG can draw on an extensive network of academic and non-academic partners and research groups at local, national, and global level. The IKG is committed to the dialog between academia and civil society and participates in political and social discourses.
