Interdisciplinary Center for Integration and Migration Research (InZentIM)

The Interdisciplinary Center for Integration and Migration Research (InZentIM) is a research center at the University of Duisburg-Essen. It was founded in 2017 to bundle and strengthen existing research on integration and migration at the University of Duisburg-Essen. It is the first university center of its kind in North Rhine-Westphalia with around 100 members. Prof. Dr. Andreas Blätte has been the chairman since 2020. The University of Duisburg-Essen is located in a region with a long history of immigration. The InZentIM brings together researchers from the social sciences, humanities, education and medicine who deal with aspects of integration and migration. The work is divided into different thematic areas. Part of InZentIM is a strong, self-organized network for young researchers that offers researchers who are doing a doctorate and postdocs as well as interested students at all stages of their academic qualification the opportunity to jointly implement their own academic ideas and formats in various working groups. The InZentIM works closely with other research institutions as well as with foundations, local authorities, schools and initiatives in the Ruhr Area and the state of North Rhine-Westphalia and is committed to the exchange between science, politics, business, administration, and culture. As a member of the European research association IMISCOE, InZentIM is also connected far beyond the region and is active in projects and diverse collaborations. Its events are also aimed at the general public and the media.
