Mannheim Center for European Social Research (MZES)
The Mannheim Centre for European Social Research (MZES) is an interdisciplinary research institute affiliated to the University of Mannheim. MZES was founded in 1989 and it focuses on research regarding European societies and their political systems.
As an interdisciplinary Centre, MZES employes more than 80 researchers from various fields, encompassing disciplines such as sociology, political science, media and communication studies, psychology, and economics.
Structurally MZES is divided into two research areas, each with three focal points. Research focus 3 of the sociologically oriented Area A is dedicated to the topic of "Migration and Ethnic Minorities." Currently, it constitutes the focal point with the most projects within the department. Research Area A is led by Prof. Dr. Frank Kalter, who served as MZES’s Director from 2014 to 2017. Among other projects, Prof. Dr. Kalter leads a long-term study on immigrant children in four European countries: "Children of Immigrants Longitudinal Survey in Four European Countries (CILS4EU)".
