WZB Berlin Social Science Center
The WZB Berlin Social Science Center is a non-university research institute in Berlin. The social science institute was founded in 1969 and investigates fundamental questions of modern societies. The area of "Migration and Diversity" is one of seven thematic focal areas at the WZB, which are also dedicated to the "Dynamics of Social Inequalities" or the "Dynamics of Political Systems". The research department "Migration, Integration, Transnationalization" has been headed by Prof. Dr. Ruud Koopmans since 2007. The department examines how European countries approach immigration differently, for example with regard to questions of national identity, citizenship and the relationship between state and religion. Research at the WZB is theory-based, practice-oriented, mostly long-term and predominantly internationally comparative. The WZB cooperates closely with Berlin universities and with research institutions abroad. It is a member of the Leibniz Association.
