Educational trajectories and educational participation of children from immigrant and refugee families
Integration Department
There is a broad body of research, good data and excellent academic publications on the education and educational trajectories of children from immigrant and refugee families in Germany. The aim of the project was therefore to explore the possibilities of a database that makes research results and data sets available in order to improve political and civil society practice. The idea was not to resort to keywording, as is the case in most existing databases. Instead, the aim was to enable more targeted searches on how certain concepts are related in terms of content (for example, the effect of interethnic friendships and gender on prejudice), supported by machine learning.
Results: A concept for a database was developed in order to be able to identify research results and gaps more quickly. Due to personnel restructuring at the DeZIM Institute, it was not possible to implement a prototype and prepare a corresponding third-party funding application. In addition, the project dealt with two substantive issues: repeating a grade in the context of discrimination at school and the structural opening of higher education institutions for refugees.
Funding: Federal Ministry of Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth (Institutional funding)
