The widespread solidarity and civil society support for refugees from Ukraine in various European countries have been broadly praised. Yet also a risk of selective solidarity has been articulated. Against this background, this research note explores patterns of solidarity with Ukrainian refugees compared to refugees from other countries, drawing from a population survey fielded in November and December 2022 in Germany. We assess two types of supports: the willingness to take on mentorships and to privately host refugees. We furthermore analyze patterns in the overall population and among refugee supporters. Our data show a preference for supporting refugees from Ukraine in the overall population but not among refugee supporters.
