Phoebe Zoe Maria U. Sanchez is a Filipina, Prof/Dr. of Sociology, teaching Sociology and History at the University of the Philippines Cebu for twenty-six (26) years. She served as a member of the board of directors of the Philippine Sociological Society (PSS) for two terms, from 2016 to 2018, and 2018 to 2020 respectively. She served as member of the board of advisers at the Center for Critical Peace Studies (CCPS), School of Social Sciences and Humanities (SSSH), University of Management and Technology, C-I, Johar Town, Lahore Pakistan. Likewise, a volunteer policy officer of the Africa Europe Faith and Justice Network (AEFJN), Brussels, Belgium. She is currently the chair of Bagong Alyansang Makabayan Europe (BAYAN Europe/Filipino Nation Europe), the broadest patriotic and anti-tyrant alliance of Filipinos in the European region.
On Oct. 25-30, 2021, she chaired the International Extramural entitled: “Decolonial Perspectives: Reclaiming Our Rights as People from the Global South”. The International Extramural was organized in commemoration of the 500th year of Magellan’s landing in the Philippines and hosted by the University of the Philippines Cebu, and RC47 of the International Sociological Association (ISA) css.upcebu.edu.ph/international-extramural-2021.
Prof. Sanchez is currently a fellow at DeZIM-Institute in Berlin, Germany, a visiting professor at the Universite Catholique de Louvain, Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium. She holds a fellowship in the 11th round from the Philipp Schwartz-Initiative of the Alexander von Humboldt foundation.
Prof. Sanchez highlights works in line with Labor Rights, Women’s Rights, public policy analyses in the field of public housing and urban development, and governance and civil society institutionalization. Her most recent publication is entitled: “Engaging in Public Sociology: The Philippines’ Way”, Chapter 13 in the International Handbook of Public Sociology, published by Routledge in Hossfeld, Kelly, and Hossfeld Eds. Among her works are: “Cebu’s Subnational Politics: A Survey of Philippine Political Structure and Culture,” published at the springer Journal of Law and Social Sciences (JLSS) of the Global Science Technology Forum (GSTF).
