Prof. Dr. Ali Konyali studied cultural studies and European studies at Maastricht University in the Netherlands and international migration and ethnic relations at Malmö University in Sweden. He worked as a junior lecturer at Maastricht University before moving to Erasmus University Rotterdam, where he was involved in the international research project ELITES: Pathways to Success.

Prof. Dr. Ali Konyali also worked at the network office of the multidisciplinary research network IMISCOE (International Migration and Social Cohesion in Europe) in Rotterdam. He has published research articles in various international journals, such as the open access journal Social Inclusion and the influential journal Ethnic and Racial Studies.

In 2018, Dr. Ali Konyali defended his doctoral thesis at Erasmus University Rotterdam on the professional success of descendants of migrants from Turkey. Prior to that, he was a research assistant at the Institute for Migration Research and Intercultural Studies (IMIS) at the University of Osnabrück.

Prof. Dr. Ali Konyali was been a member of the DeZIM Institute since July 2019. As a networking officer, he initially worked on consolidating cooperation between the founding institutes and the DeZIM community. Since January 2020, he was been responsible for the scientific support of model projects in the federal program “Demokratie leben!” (Live Democracy!). Since October 2023, he has been a visiting professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts (grund_schule der künste). There he teaches and conducts research in the department of “Musical and Aesthetic Education.”
