The Institute for Employment Research (IAB)

The Institute for Employment Research (IAB) is a research institute of the Federal Employment Agency (BA) in Nuremberg. It was founded in 1967 and concentrates on research questions relating the labour market. The research department "Migration and International Labour Studies" is headed by Prof. Dr. Herbert Brücker and Prof. Dr. Yuliya Kosyakova. It examines how (forced) migration affect the labour market and social security systems in Germany and which factors influence the integration of migrants and refugees into the labour market, education system and society. The IAB has annually been surveying migrants since 2013 (IAB-SOEP migration sample) and refugees since 2016 (IAB-BAMF-SOEP survey) in Germany. These two longitudinal surveys make a significant contribution to migration and refugee research in Germany.
