
Benedikt Wirth has been working as a researcher in the sub-study "Institutional Racism in Early Childhood Education and Care" within the National Discrimination and Racism Monitor at DeZIM since February 2022. From October 2023 to May 2024, he was also responsible for preparing the expert report "Strengthening Children's Rights through Complaint Mechanisms for Refugee Children in Refugee Housing: Research Findings and Practical Experiences" for the non-governmental organization Save the Children. Since January 2024, he is involved in the Integration Department at DeZIM, where he focuses on (language) mediation processes in educational contexts from a sociological perspective.
His research interests include inequalities as well as institutional racism and discrimination in educational and care institutions, particularly in schools and daycare centers. He places a strong emphasis on the perspectives of children and adolescents, centering qualitative methods. Benedikt Wirth studied Social and Cultural Anthropology, Political Science, and Transcultural Studies at Heidelberg University, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and the University of Vienna. He is currently pursuing a PhD in Sociology at Humboldt University of Berlin.
In addition to his academic background, he has professional experience in the fields of (political) education, diversity, and anti-discrimination, particularly in early childhood education, out-of-school care, and child and youth welfare.
