We cordially invite you to the presentation of the sub-project "Participatory data analysis for racism and right-wing extremism research" as part of the joint project "Data Portal for Racism and Right-Wing Extremism Research (DP-R|EX)" .
The aim of the sub-project is to give communities affected by racism and discrimination the opportunity to gain insights into the data and to use it. In doing so, we want to meet the wish expressed to us that communities are not only addressed as affected parties during data collection, but are also involved in the evaluation. Against this background, we would like to use the project to create improved opportunities to find and use data from racism and right-wing extremism research - and this goal is explicitly aimed at people affected by racism and discrimination.
The aim of the workshop discussion is to record the wishes and needs of such a "participatory data analysis". Through a dialog with the communities, we would like to find out to what extent there is an interest in participating in the data analysis structure and, based on this, to incorporate any suggestions into our work in DP-R|EX. In particular, the following questions will be discussed:
- How do members of the communities inform themselves about relevant research data and findings (e.g. right-wing extremism)? What are the needs in this regard?
- How can research data be used if the usual legal access requirements are not met (e.g. member of an academic institution)?
In addition, we will provide insights into our Data Explorer and the DP-R|EX data portal and are particularly looking forward to your feedback.
The workshop will take place as a hybrid event at the DeZIM Institute and online via Zoom. Travel costs will be covered for people living outside of Berlin. Participating organizations will also receive an expense allowance of €50. Please note that on-site participation is limited to 20 people.
You can already register for the event at dp-rex(at)dezim-institut.de by July 7. Please enter your full name and, if applicable, the organization you represent. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
We look forward to welcoming you to the workshop discussion!

ABOUT THE DATA PORTAL FOR RESEARCH ON RACISM AND RIGHT-WING EXTREMISM (DP-R|EX)
The joint project aims to establish a powerful research data infrastructure for racism and extremism research (R|EX research) in Germany. A topic-specific data portal has been established to improve the visibility of and access to research data. The portal offers targeted services to support the search, management and sharing of data in order to support the research process and sustainably strengthen the reuse of research data.
