Social Media Netiquette

We appreciate your interest in the social media channels of the German Center for Integration and Migration Research (DeZIM). We aim to promote respectful, constructive, and open dialogue within society and on our platforms. To ensure this, the following rules apply on our channels:

Etiquette

  • Treat others the way you would like to be treated.
  • Criticism is welcome as long as it is expressed constructively, respectfully, and objectively.
  • Please keep in mind that our social media pages are public. Therefore, please consider carefully what information you wish to share—especially when it involves personal data (of third parties).
  • Note on Accessibility: Our social media content is not yet fully accessible. We are continuously working to improve accessibility.

Moderation and Content
  Management

Our social media team reserves the right to delete or hide posts, comments, or messages, especially if they:

  • are racist, anti-Semitic, or otherwise discriminatory, or could be interpreted as such,
  • are degrading, offensive, defamatory, threatening, glorify violence, or are sexist,
  • spread hate speech or conspiracy theories,
  • support extremist ideologies,
  • repeatedly or deliberately attack other users (so-called “trolling” or “flaming”),
  • contain advertising, spam, or commercial content unrelated to the topic,
  • or violate applicable law.

Comments that violate these rules will be removed by our social media team without warning. In serious cases, we also reserve the right to report and suspend users.
In addition, our social media team will, where appropriate, provide specific referrals to support and counseling services—particularly for those affected by hate speech, racism, anti-Semitism, and mental health issues.

Responsibility

You are solely responsible for your comments and content. The DeZIM Institute assumes no liability for posts published by users.

Privacy

Please do not publish any personal information about yourself or third parties (e.g., addresses, phone numbers, email addresses). To protect your privacy, we ask that you send us any confidential matters directly via private message.

Availability

Our goal is to respond to all questions in comments and direct messages. If you contact us in the evening or on the weekend, we will address your inquiry as soon as possible. For inquiries that require internal consultation, a response may take a little longer. Messages that are not addressed directly to us or that appear to be sent to a large distribution list or are spam will not be answered.
