For years, empirical studies have shown clear differences in the way civic engagement is practised and organized in Germany. In particular, people with a migration background and people without German citizenship are still underrepresented in volunteering. This was also emphasized by the expert commission of the Federal Government's Fourth Civic Engagement Report, which focused on "Access opportunities for volunteering" . A current research project by DeZIM in cooperation with GoVolunteer e.V. is now presenting initial findings on the role that discrimination plays in volunteering and as a barrier to volunteering. At the same time, volunteering can lead to numerous positive experiences and empowerment processes.
We would like to discuss the findings of the project and the opportunities and challenges of migrant volunteering with stakeholders from volunteering practice, politics and academia. We cordially invite you to join us.
