Project description:

A grant has been requested for the period from 1 April 2020 to 31 December 2023 to strengthen and network integration and migration research as a central task of the German Centre for Integration and Migration Research (DeZIM). Through strategic and efficient research networking, the DeZIM research community (DeZIM-FG) is to be structurally strengthened during this period and cooperative research projects are to be effectively managed and coordinated. The project builds on the experiences from the first funding phase within the DeZIM kick-off project (10/2017-02/2020). The structures created in the process will be further developed. For the structure-promoting development of the DeZIM research community, a science manager was established at the DeZIM Institute in the form of a central DeZIM research networking office. The research networking unit is supplemented by nine research assistants at the seven institutes of the DeZIM research community. As decentralised networking units, they support the work of the central DeZIM research networking unit from their respective institutions. This combination of a central office with a decentralised structure makes sense for the coordination and integration of the structurally and disciplinarily very heterogeneous research community. By assuming the networking and communication tasks at the DeZIM Institute, the central research networking office ensures research cooperation and sustainable networking of all integrated institutions of the DeZIM community. It also enables close cooperation with the research departments at the DeZIM Institute and coordinated public relations work. This makes it possible to develop and implement a cross-institutional research strategy and to communicate the research of the entire DeZIM to the public, politics and civil society as well as internationally.

Participating collaborative partners: German Centre for Integration and Migration Research (DeZIM Institute); Berlin Institute for Empirical Integration and Migration Research (BIM), Humboldt University (HU) of Berlin; Institute for Employment Research (IAB), Nuremberg; Institute for Conflict and Violence Research (IKG), Bielefeld University; Institute for Migration Research and Intercultural Studies (IMIS), University of Osnabrück; Interdisciplinary Centre for Integration and Migration Research (InZentIM), University of Duisburg-Essen; Mannheim Centre for European Social Research (MZES), University of Mannheim; WZB Berlin Social Science Center
