Project description:

The structural project "DeZIM Research Networking (DeZIM.FV)” builds upon the two preceding funding phases of the DeZIM kick-off project (10/2017–02/2020) and the "DeZIM Research Networking (DeZIM.FV)" (01.04.2020–31.12.2023).

The central objective of the structural project is the strategic development of research networking within the DeZIM community, fostering collaboration between the DeZIM Research Community and the DeZIM Institute. The initial funding phase was characterized by establishing functional work structures tailored to the distinctive features of diverse institutes. Subsequently, during the second funding phase, research networking achieved notable success in strengthening structural connections and effectively managing collaborative research projects.

This was facilitated by establishing a central coordination office at the DeZIM Institute, overseen by the research manager of the Research Community, and by strengthening decentralized research network coordinators at the collaborating institutions. This enabled efficient coordination of activities withing the Research Community, leading to the targeted development of networking and knowledge transfer mechanisms, including but not limited to implemented formats like Workshop-Series, FG-Wednesday, FG-Newsletter, and DeZIMinutes. Moreover, it fostered a closer alignment between the DeZIM Institute, the DeZIM Research Community, and the funding Ministry.

In the third funding phase, we are building upon this foundation by aiming to consolidate and strengthen the existing research networking framework, adapting continuously to changing conditions. We implement this by continuing and modifying proven formats as well as by exploring and establishing innovative formats such as a Dialogue Forum for enhanced exchange between Research and Politics or DeZIM Research Retreats, thereby creating synergies, expanding the visibility of the Research Community, and fostering external impacts.

Especially due to the current developments that have brought the field of migration, integration, and racism back to the agenda, the role of the DeZIM Research Community has emerged as crucial in times of increased demand for information and expertise.

Participating collaborative partners: German Center for Integration and Migration Research (DeZIM Institute); Berlin Institute for Empirical Integration and Migration Research (BIM), Humboldt University (HU) of Berlin; Institute for Employment Research (IAB), Nuremberg; Institute for Conflict and Violence Research (IKG), University of Bielefeld; Institute for Migration Research and Intercultural Studies (IMIS), University of Osnabrück; Interdisciplinary Center for Integration and Migration Research (InZentIM), University of Duisburg-Essen; Mannheim Center for European Social Research (MZES), University of Mannheim; Berlin Social Science Research Center (WZB)
