Exploring the Transferability of the Canoo Cultural Access Pass from Canada to Germany
Integration Department
Project head: Prof. Dr. Magdalena Nowicka
Project team members: Denis Zekovic
Canoo is a Canadian innovation that translates our openness to immigration into hundreds of thousands of integration experiences each year by providing eligible newcomers with one year of free or discounted admission to over 1,400 culture and nature attractions, concerts, activities, and sports matches, plus deals with major companies like Air Canada. Given Germany’s efforts to welcome and integrate newcomers, the Institute for Canadian Citizenship and DeZIM explore whether Canoo might help Germany achieve its goals.
The project’s aim is to provide a deeper understanding of Germany’s population and immigration context, including demographic and immigration trends; immigrants’ legal status, residency expectations and aspirations; an overview of immigrant-serving organizations and welcome programs, including locations, services, and funding structures; engaging with immigrants to understand their interests, challenges, and perspectives on such a program; exploring the interest of philanthropic and corporate partners to support or participate in such a program; and, exploring government attitudes to such a program. The project will be delivered by desktop research, analyses of secondary and primary data, expert interviews and focus groups with immigrants to determine residency aspirations, social and recreational interests, and service needs.
