This review examines Expatriation and Migration: Two Faces of the Same Coin, edited by Sylvain Beck, which challenges the binary divide between “expatriate” and “migrant.” Contributors demonstrate that these labels are socially constructed, racialised, gendered, and classed, circulating through law, corporate HR, media, and everyday bureaucracy. Drawing on interdisciplinary perspectives from sociology and anthropology to political economy and critical theory, the volume situates mobility within a broader framework of neoliberal globalisation, colonial legacies, and environmental crisis.
