Since its introduction in 2004, the Migrant Integration Policy Index (MIPEX) has established itself as a comprehensive tool for comparing migration and integration policies in the EU. It serves as a benchmark for both researchers and policy makers to monitor policy changes over time in the areas of labor market integration, education, family reunification, political participation, permanent residence, access to nationality, anti-discrimination and access to healthcare. The sixth edition, covering the period 2020-2023/2024, was recently published.
How has German migration and integration policy evolved? How does it compare to other EU countries? In cooperation with DeZIM, the German report on the MIPEX results will be presented on May 26, 2025 during a lunch discussion with the index coordinator Basak Yavcan and the German rapporteur Claudia Köhler.
More information on MIPEX
The 6th edition of the Migrant Integration Policy Index (MIPEX), led by the Migration Policy Group (MPG), covers the period 2020-2023/2024. The current MIPEX update measures migrant integration policies in 27 EU Member States and, as in the previous edition, targets 52 countries across five continents. This index is a comprehensive tool whose data and information can serve as a basis for policy measures, proposals for change and projects to achieve equality in the countries. The various indicators provide a multidimensional picture of migrants' opportunities for social participation in eight areas: Labor Market, Education, Family Reunion, Political Participation, Permanent Residence, Access to Citizenship, Anti-Discrimination and Health. MIPEX is successful and recognized: It is used by various stakeholders such as policy makers, non-governmental organizations and researchers and has been cited in more than 4,600 documents.
