She studied political science at Bogazici University in Istanbul, Universite Libre de Bruxelles in Brussels and Aberystwyth University in Wales and received her PhD in social sciences from Katholieke Universiteit Leuven in 2013. As a research associate, Dr. Zeynep Yanaşmayan has worked at various research institutions, including the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity in Göttingen, the Humboldt University in Berlin, and the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt (Oder).
Dr. Zeynep Yanaşmayan was scientific coordinator of the EU project "Religious Diversity and Secular Models in Europe - Innovative Approaches to Law and Policy" (RELIGARE) and, from 2017 to 2021, research coordinator for the MPG board project "Challenges of Migration, Integration and Exclusion" at the Max Planck Institute for Ethnological Research in Halle.
Her focus areas include migration efforts at the micro level, policy debates and rules at the macro level, and diaspora organizations at the meso level. In this context, she has also worked on religious diversity in European societies.
Dr. Zeynep Yanaşmayan has written the book "The Migration of Highly Educated Turkish Citizens to Europe: From Guestworkers to Global Talent (2019, Routledge)" and co-edited "The Failure of Popular Constitution Making in Turkey" (2020, Cambridge University Press).
