We are pleased to announce the DeZIM_book discussion with the renowned migration professor and lawyer Prof. Hiroshi Motomura (UCLA School of Law) on Thursday, 26 June 25 at 1 pm.

He will present his latest book Borders and Belonging: Toward a Fair Immigration Policy. Hiroshi Motomura starts with his personal migration experience and then offers a comprehensive analysis of migration policy in the USA. In particular, he sheds light on questions that arise in many countries of immigration, including integration, the role of time, the role of local authorities, municipalities and private actors, and the significance of ‘race’ in the context of shaping migration policy.

The subsequent discussion, moderated by Dr. Zeynep Yanaşmayan, will focus on the following questions:

  • What significance does integration have in migration policy?
  • How does the understanding of integration change due ot he dimension of time?
  • What does the increasing ‘privatisation’ of integration and enforcement mean?
  • How can the US-American findings be transferred to European/German contexts?
  • The role of racism and structural discrimination in migration policy?

We cordially invite all colleagues to take part in this exciting discussion!
